Week #9 AVID

10-26-09

SSM- Silent Sustained Make-up

Target: Students will evaluate their grades and determine which missing assignments in their classes would most drastically improve their grades. Students will then work on one missing assignment in class without talking. Every student will have a progress report type conversation with the elective teacher.

10-27-09

Tutorial

Target: Analysis and Inquiry questions will be presented in small groups where tutors can help students find solutions to their questions.

10-28-09

Target: Team building by developing a common identity. Teams will work on a t-shirt design and be ready to present it on Friday. The design should incorporate the team concept and focus on promoting AVID.

10-29-09

Tutorial

Target: Analysis and Inquiry questions will be presented in small groups where tutors can help students find solutions to their questions.

10-30-09

Six year rewrites due.

Target: Students will listen to a presentation from Mr. Cox about servant leadership. While taking Cornell Notes students should develop a strong idea about servant leadership and its importance at Rogers High School.

Week #8 AVID

National College Fair Field Trip/U of W

Target: Students will collect information on potential colleges and examine the differences each have for minimum requirements for acceptance.

10-20-09

Binder Check #3 Tutors Grade

Target: Students will collaborate and write about their experience at the National College Fair. A debrief of both the PSAT and the National College Fair will lead the discussion about college readiness.

10-21-09

Target: Students will evaluate their performance in the first eight weeks of school. During the evaluation process students will address two areas of positive achievement and two areas of negative performance. Students will write smart goals with the intent of changing their negative academic performances.

Six Year Plan Returned

Target: Students will evaluate their performance on their six year plans. Students will listen to a classmates essay and evaluate how much depth and voice they have with-in their own essay.

Week #7 AVID

10-12-09

Target: Students will work cooperatively to develop a grading rubric for collection and completion of their Cornell Notes from class work and Tutorials. Students will begin to value the process of collaboration as a major goal of AVID. These principles fit into WICR.

10-13-09 Tutorial #2

Target: Students will use inquiry and analysis to write two level three questions. The questions need to be sincere and should not be questions to which they already know the answer.

10-14-09 PSAT Prep

Target: Students will analyze the necessary steps to be successful on the PSAT. Breaking down each section, students will outline a plan of attack for studying for the PSAT.

10-15-09 PSAT Tutorial

Target: Student will be placed into groups according to questions that they have about the PSAT. Students will then rotate from group to group working on problems that are found on the PSAT.

10-16-09 PSAT Study Hall

Target: Students will be given a chance to take a practice PSAT in class. This will begin to prepare them for the test and help them to manage their time.

Week #6 AVID

10-05-09

Target: Using their goal setting pre-write, personal inventory and informational notes from the AVID counselor, students will begin writing their six year plan. Using the six year plan rubric students will begin the process of evaluating information needed in their six year plan.

10-06-09

Target: Upon entering class students will hand in their Tutorial Request Forms. Tutors will be introduced and students will be broke into groups. Cooperatively students and tutors will work on an ice breaker and then work on the inquiry questions that students have brought to class.

10-07-09

Target: Using a quick write worksheet, students will prepare an on-demand write about their six year plan.
