Target: Develop test taking strategies, learn the eight essential skills not learned in school, and work cooperatively on team activities.

Students will examine the eight essential skills not learned in school. These would include the following.

How to make people like you and network.
How to speed read and use audio files to your advantage.
How to set goals and manage time.
How to read a financial statement.
How to negotiate and not get taken advantage of.
How to succeed in life.
How to spread an idea.

Career Exploration: Students will use the mobile computer lab to research three careers and the the qualification necessary for employment. Student will used focused note taking skills to write their findings in their research log.

Weekly Target: Goals setting, reading strategies and PSAT info.

New Years Resolutions: Goal setting and the breaking of bad habits.

1. Be realistic and set goals that are achievable. Winning the lottery, is probably not realistic.

2. Describe your resolution in specific terms. Instead of saying, "I do not want to be lazy." Instead opt for "I want to get more exercise or I want to watch less television."

3. Break large goals into smaller goals. Example: Commit to losing weight by agreeing to join a gym and attend regularly.

4. Find alternatives to a behavior you want to change and make this part of your resolutions plan. So you want to improve your math grade, what are some realistic ways to improve your math grade. Stay once a week, study with a friend, ask questions in class.

5. Above all, aim for things that are truly important to you, not things that you ought to do or someone else expects of you.
