College Research

Target: Exploration and discovery are essential skills in life. Students will collaborate using laptop computer to "Find the College That Fits". Student will focus on career interests and fill out a survey that will help them to inquire into colleges around the United States.

Target: Students will complete a "College Research Worksheet". The worksheet will focus on all the necessary requirements for admission to college. Worksheet should be completed by the end of the period using information from Monday.

Target: Collaboration, communication and preparation are essential components for success. Students will work in their parent night groups to complete and practice their presentation. By the end of the period all students should be ready to present at the AVID Parent Night.

Target: Students will work cooperatively to develop team skills. Taking a large sheet, student will be asked to stand on the sheet together. The sheet will be folded in 1/2 until students have to use ingenuity to accomplish the task.

Philosophical Chairs

Target: Building and supporting an argument are essential tools for success. Students will have the opportunity to develop their analytical skills by participating in an activity called philosophical chairs. Topics of discussion are listed below.

* All public education including post-secondary education should be free.
* If you have a high SAT score and an "A" average, you should be able to go to any college you choose.

Team Building: Amnesia Game

Target: A participant is identified as suffering from amnesia. That person needs to pretend not to know anything about the past. The rest of the group tells some things that help the amnesia victim. Levels of questions should be used.
