Week #10 AVID

11-2-09

Philosophical Chairs

Target: Building and supporting an argument are essential tools for success. Students will have the opportunity to develop their analytical skills by participating in an activity called philosophical chairs. Topics of discussion are listed below.

* All public education including post-secondary education should be free.
* If you have a high SAT score and an "A" average, you should be able to go to any college you choose.

Tutorial

Target: Analysis and Inquiry questions will be presented in small groups where tutors can help students find solutions.

11-4-09

Team Building: Amnesia Game

Target: A participant is identified as suffering from amnesia. That person needs to pretend not to know anything about the past. The rest of the group tells some things that help the amnesia victim. Levels of questions should be used.

Target: Analysis and Inquiry questions will be presented in small groups where tutors can help students find solutions to their questions.

11-6-09

Parent Night Organization

Target: Students will be placed in small groups and work on six different ideas that they can present and lead during parent night. Each group will have the responsibility to develop the order, scope and sequence of AVID parent night.
